About Ujala Batteries&Inverter – Energy in Ghaziabad
My shop is right on Thana Road near the Bye-pass Chowk in Vijay Nagar. It’s called Ujala Batteries&Inverter. I spend most of my day surrounded by these heavy black boxes and the smell of acid. It’s not the cleanest job, but people need power when the grid goes down. When there’s a power cut, the phone starts ringing non-stop. Everyone wants their inverter fixed right that second. I’ve been in this spot, A 28, for quite a while now. I know most of the shopkeepers around here. Sometimes I’m out on my scooter going to someone's house because their battery died and they can't run their fans. The shop is small and packed to the ceiling with different brands. I don't really bother with making the place look pretty. It's a workshop, really. You’ll see old batteries piled up in the corner waiting to be picked up. My hands are usually a bit dirty from checking the water levels or cleaning the terminals. People come in, ask for a price, and we talk for a bit. I try to tell them which one lasts longer based on what I’ve seen fail over the years. It’s honest work. The traffic at the chowk is always loud, so we have to shout sometimes to be heard. It’s just me and a helper mostly. We stay open late during the summer because that’s when the heat makes the batteries give up and people get desperate for light.
