U P Ceramics & Potteries Ltd is located right on the G. T. Road, near Bharia Morh. It’s a pretty big spot because dealing with ceramics takes up a lot of room. We’ve got kilns and stacks of clay and finished pieces everywhere you look. Being near Bharia Morh makes it easy for the big trucks to get in and out, which is good because we move a lot of heavy stuff. The air always smells a bit like earth and heat from the ovens. We’ve been doing this for a long time, and some of the staff have been here since they were young. It’s not the cleanest work—there’s always dust on your shoes—but it’s what we know. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most of what we make gets packed up and sent off pretty quickly. We just focus on the production side of things. The G. T. Road is always loud with traffic, so you get used to the sound of horns while you work. We aren't trying to change the world or anything, we just want to make decent pottery that lasts. It’s a straightforward business and we like the routine of it. Each day is about the same as the last, and that suits us just fine. There’s always a new batch in the kiln and plenty of work to keep us occupied until closing time.
