Sea Shell Ceramics (India)

We are located out in Village Chhapraula, right off the G.T. Road. It’s a dusty area with a lot of trucks passing by all the time. Our facility is spread across units 30 and 31. It’s a very practical space. We’ve got kilns that run for hours and the smell of clay is everywhere. It’s not the kind of place you’d wear your best clothes to. Most of the guys here have been with us for years. We start work pretty early to avoid the worst of the midday heat. The G.T. Road is always busy, so getting materials delivered can be a bit of a headache with the traffic. We don't spend much on decorating the place because it’s a working factory, not a showroom. There are piles of ceramic pieces in various stages of being finished. Sometimes things break, which is just part of the business, so we just sweep it up and keep going. We have a small area where we sit and have lunch together. It’s a grounded way of life, working with our hands and seeing the final product come out of the fire. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there, just trying to make items that people can actually use in their homes. It’s hard work, but we like seeing the finished ceramics lined up ready to go. The village atmosphere makes it feel a bit more relaxed than the busy city center.
