Shubham Jain Kirana Store

Shubham Jain Kirana Store is located at 187, Prem Nagar in Ghaziabad. We’ve been at this location for a while now, and the routine hasn't changed much over the years. The street outside is usually quite dusty, so we spend a lot of time with a cloth in hand, wiping down the biscuit packets and the oil tins. The shop is narrow, with wooden shelves that go all the way to the back. We keep all the essentials like rice, flour, different types of dals, and cleaning supplies. Most of the people who come here are our neighbors from Prem Nagar who have been buying from us for years. They often ask to pay later or bring back a container that needs filling. We don't have a computer to keep track of things; it’s all done in a thick ledger with a red cover. The afternoon stretch can be a bit quiet, which is when we sit on the stool and listen to the radio or talk to the person in the shop next door. When the school nearby lets out, the place gets loud with children wanting chips or cold drinks. It’s a lot of work to keep everything organized, and sometimes the bags of sugar tear, making a mess on the floor. We just try to make sure we have the things people need for their daily cooking and cleaning. It’s just us doing the daily work here in the neighborhood.
