Shalini’S Indian Fashions is situated at J 53 in Patel Nagar I. The 'J' block is a busy little pocket of the neighborhood. Our building is a typical Patel Nagar structure, and we use the J 53 space for everything we do. It’s not a huge place, so we have to be clever about how we stack our boxes and display the clothes. Most days, you’ll find us sorting through the new arrivals or chatting with someone who wandered in from the street. Patel Nagar I has a lot of energy, and there is always someone passing by the window. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s more of a hands-on environment where we do the packing, the cleaning, and the selling ourselves. Sometimes the doorbell rings constantly, and other times it’s quiet for hours, giving us a chance to catch up on the books. We’ve had to fix the door handle a couple of times because it gets so much use. The floor is a bit worn in the spots where we stand the most. We don't put on any airs here. We just show up, open the locks, and get to work. It’s a local business in a local street, and we are just part of the daily life in this corner of Patel Nagar. The kettle is usually on if we have a minute to spare between chores. We just keep things moving along. It is a simple life.
