Sai General Store

Down here in Sahibabad, specifically at B-1/56 in the DLF area, things are usually pretty steady. We have been running Sai General Store for a good while. It is a basic setup with wooden shelves and a counter that has seen better days. People from the nearby blocks stop in for their daily bread, eggs, and whatever else they forgot to buy at the bigger markets. We try to keep a bit of everything, so there are plastic buckets hanging from the ceiling and stacks of notebooks tucked away in the back. It isn’t the most organized place, but we know where everything is kept. If someone asks for a specific type of spice, we can usually find it under a minute. The lighting inside is a bit dim, but it stays cool enough even in the Ghaziabad heat. We don't spend money on big ads or anything like that. People just know we are here because they walk past us every day. Sometimes we sit outside on a stool when there aren't many customers. It is a quiet kind of work. We handle the billing ourselves, usually on a small notepad or just by memory if it's only one or two items. We have seen kids grow up in this neighborhood, coming in for candy and now coming in for groceries for their own homes. It’s just how things go around here. The front shutter is a bit heavy to pull down at night, but we get it done.
