Rohit General Store

You will find Rohit General Store at number 142 in Sahibabad, right on the Main Shyam Part. This area of Ghaziabad is always full of dust and noise from the traffic. I usually start the day by sweeping the front step and getting the cold drink crates stacked up outside. The store is not anything fancy. It is just a concrete room with metal racks that we have filled with all sorts of household things. We have everything from toothbrushes to big packets of washing powder. Most of the customers are people living in the nearby houses who just need one or two things for dinner. It is quite busy in the evenings when everyone is returning from their jobs. I have to be careful about where I put the new stock because the space is limited. Sometimes I forget where I put the smaller items like sewing kits or light bulbs. The fan hums away in the corner and the radio is usually playing some old songs in the background. It feels like a second home because I spend more time here than anywhere else. We do not do home delivery or anything like that. People just drop in, say hello, get their stuff, and head back out into the heat. It is a straightforward business and we just keep it going one day at a time without much fuss. I try to stay until 9 pm most nights before heading home.
