Our little school is tucked away in the Dilshad Extension area of Shalimar Garden in Sahibabad. It’s a kindergarten, so as you can imagine, it is usually very loud during the day. We have lots of small kids running around from early morning until they finally go home in the afternoon. The rooms are filled with drawings and the kind of mess you expect when four-year-olds are involved in everything. We don't have a huge playground, but the kids find ways to stay busy in the space we have. It’s a neighborhood school, really. Most of the parents live just a few streets away and walk their kids here in the morning before they go to work. We’ve been in this building for a while now. The paint might be peeling a bit in the corners, and the front gate squeaks when you open it, but it works for us. We don’t try to act like we are some big elite institution. We just look after the kids and teach them the basics like the alphabet and how to count. Sometimes it feels more like a daycare than a real school, but we do get through the lessons eventually. The staff here are mostly local women who know how to handle a group of energetic children. It’s hard work, and we all go home tired every single day. But it’s good to see the kids learning how to share and play together. That’s about it for us.
