Poonam Power Tools

My dad started this little spot in Hans Plaza a long time ago. G/10 is usually pretty busy, especially in the mornings when the sun hits Ambedkar Road just right. People come in looking for drills or saws and usually stay to chat for a bit. It is not some fancy showroom where everything is shiny. We have boxes stacked up and there is usually some dust on the shelves from the work going on. The Ghanta Ghar area is always noisy, so you get used to the sound of traffic while you're trying to figure out which motor part someone needs. I spend most of my day sitting behind the counter, looking through catalogs or helping a guy find a specific wrench he lost. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, but we just keep going. It is a simple life here. We handle a lot of different power tools, and if we don't have it, we try to see where it might be. The floor gets swept once a day but by noon it’s messy again with bits of metal and cardboard. It’s just how it is when you’re working with your hands. We don’t have a big sign or anything, just the shop number and a lot of familiar faces coming through the door. It feels like home even when it’s chaotic.
