Parveen Provision Store

Parveen Provision Store is located at D 267 in Lajpat Nagar, Sahibabad. I’ve been behind this counter for a good many years now. The shop is small and the aisles are a bit tight because we try to fit in as much stock as possible. You’ll find sacks of rice and lentils near the entrance and shelves full of soaps and biscuits further back. It gets quite warm in here during the afternoons. I usually have the radio playing softly in the corner. People from the nearby houses come in for their daily milk or to pick up things they forgot during their big weekly shop. I don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a regular store where you can get what you need for the kitchen. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit mixed up, and I have to spend the evening counting tins and packets to see what needs ordering. My son helps me on the weekends when it gets crowded. We know which neighbors like which tea and who always asks for a bit of credit until the end of the month. It’s not a corporate supermarket, just a local corner shop. We keep the floor swept and try to make sure the bread is always fresh. It’s a quiet life, mostly, just talking to the regulars and keeping the shelves full. I like the routine of opening up every morning and seeing the same faces walk through the door as the sun starts to come up.
