Palki The Saree Shop

Palki The Saree Shop is right at 80 Kalka Gari Chowk on Ambedkar Road. If you know the chowk, you know how busy it gets with the traffic and the noise from all the cars and buses passing by. We are right in the thick of it. The shop has been here for a bit, and we have sarees stacked from the floor up to the ceiling in some parts. It’s a lot of fabric to keep track of. We spend our days unfolding sarees for people to look at and then trying to fold them back perfectly, which is harder than it looks. Ambedkar Road is a main stretch, so we get all kinds of people walking in, some just to escape the heat for a minute. The fans are always running, and we usually have a glass of water ready for anyone who stays a while. It gets a bit chaotic during the wedding season when everyone is in a hurry, but we just take it one person at a time. We don't have fancy displays or digital screens. It’s just us, the sarees, and the counters. We know the other shop owners around the chowk, and we often share a tea in the afternoon when things settle down for a bit. It’s a loud, busy, and colorful place to work, but we are used to the noise by now.
