Grocery Shop

We have been running this grocery shop here in Mohan Nagar for quite some time now. It’s just a regular place where we stock the basic things people need every day like flour, pulses, and soaps. The shop isn't very big and sometimes it gets a bit crowded in the evenings when everyone comes back from work. We spend most of our morning checking what is left on the shelves and calling the distributors to bring more milk or bread. The neighborhood knows us and we know most of them by their faces, even if we don't always remember names. We keep things simple. There is a lot of dust that comes in from the road, so we spend a good amount of time cleaning the glass jars and the counter. It isn’t fancy at all. We have a small fan that makes a bit of noise but it helps when the sun is really hitting the front door. We try to keep the stock fresh because nobody likes old stuff. Most of our day goes into weighing out sugar or packing small bags of spices. It’s a lot of standing around and waiting for the next person to walk in. Sometimes the crates outside get in the way of the neighbors, so we have to move them back and forth. It’s just how it is here in Mohan Nagar. We open early and stay until the lights on the street come on.
