Chahat General Store

Chahat General Store is right there at 621 in Shalimar Garden, Sahibabad. We are quite close to Rose Park, so we get a lot of foot traffic from people going for their morning or evening walks. It’s a general store where we sell the usual daily necessities like bread, biscuits, and bottled water. Ghaziabad can get very dusty, so I spend a good amount of time every morning wiping down the jars and packets. The shop isn't very big, but we have managed to fit a lot of stuff inside. We have some steel racks and some wooden ones that have been here since the start. During the summer, the cold drink fridge is the most popular part of the store. We often run out of cold water bottles by the afternoon. It is mostly just me and a helper who works here. We don't have any complicated computers, just a simple way of doing things. Sometimes the neighborhood kids come in just to look at the toys we keep on the top shelf. We've seen the area around Rose Park change quite a bit over the years, with more buildings coming up. But our little shop stays pretty much the same. We open the shutters around eight and close them when the street lights come on. It’s a busy life but it keeps us occupied. We try to keep the staples like sugar and salt always in stock for the families nearby.
