Bansal Kirana Store

Bansal Kirana Store is right in the middle of Hindon Vihar on Meerut Road. We are close to Bhim Nagar and Sewa Nagar so we get people from all over those parts. It’s just a regular grocery shop. We have sacks of rice and lentils sitting out front. Inside the shelves are packed with soap and biscuits and everything else a house needs. I spend most of my day standing behind the counter or climbing the ladder to reach the top shelves. My son helps out after his school is finished. The fan overhead wobbles a bit and I keep meaning to fix it but I never get around to it. We have a small cooler for drinks that hums all day long. In the evenings the store gets really crowded with people coming home from work. It can get a bit hectic trying to serve everyone at once. We don't have a computer for the bills so we just use a calculator and a notepad. Sometimes the neighborhood kids come in just to look at the candy jars. We’ve lived in the back of the shop for years so we are always around if someone knocks on the door after hours. It’s a busy life but it’s ours. The street outside is always noisy with the traffic from Meerut Road but you get used to it. We just keep the shelves full and the floor swept.
