Abdul Hakeem Kiryana Stoer

We’re located at A-245 in Saheed Nagar, which is right near the Bengali Hotel. It’s a busy part of Ghaziabad and there’s always something happening on the street. Abdul Hakeem Kiryana Stoer isn’t very big, but we make use of every inch of wall space we have. Most days start with moving the heavy sacks of grains so people can actually walk through the door. It gets a bit cramped when the delivery guys bring in new stock. We have to shout over the traffic noise sometimes just to hear what a customer is asking for. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but there’s never a good time to close up and do it. We sell a lot of spices and cooking oil to the families living nearby. People know us for having the basic stuff they need for dinner. Sometimes I sit on a stool outside just to get some fresh air away from the smell of the soap and onions inside. It’s a family-run thing, so someone is always around, even if we’re just eating lunch in the back. We don't use any fancy computers for our accounts; a thick register and a pen work just fine for us. If the lights flicker, we just keep going. It’s just a normal shop for normal people in the neighborhood. We don't try to be anything else.
