Mahila B.Ed. College is situated in a place called Mudilla Amba in the Aurangabad district of Bihar. It’s a bit out of the way, surrounded by fields and small local houses. The building is a big, rectangular block made of concrete. We don't have many decorations on the walls, just some old charts and a clock that’s usually a few minutes slow. Since it’s a B.Ed. college, it’s mostly young women here learning how to manage a classroom. The classrooms are wide and have these long wooden tables where they sit and take notes. It’s usually pretty quiet inside, except for the sound of someone lecturing or the pages of books turning. We have a small library that stays quite busy during exam time. The dust in this part of Bihar is no joke, and it settles on everything, so we are always wiping down the desks. There isn’t much of a canteen, just a small stall nearby where people get tea. The staff are mostly from the nearby towns and they commute in every morning. It’s a practical environment without any of the frills you might find in a city college. We just focus on getting through the curriculum and making sure the paperwork is done. It’s a steady, slow-paced life here in Mudilla Amba. Most of our students are very serious because they want to get their teaching jobs.
