Rasmi Rice Mill

At Rasmi Rice Mill, things are always a bit noisy because of the machinery running in the background. We are situated at No.37 on Golapalli Street in the Manjari Nagar area of Berhampur. It is a busy part of town and there is always something happening outside our doors. The mill has been part of this neighborhood for some time. You can usually smell the grain from down the street. We spend most of our hours making sure the machines are oiled and working like they should. It gets quite dusty inside, so we wear old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. There are bags stacked up everywhere and we have to move them around to make space for new deliveries coming in from Ganjam. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around for it to come back so we can finish the work. It is not an easy job and your back starts to ache after a few hours of lifting. We have a small desk near the entrance where we keep the ledger books and take notes. My hands are usually covered in some sort of dust or grease by the end of the day. We don't really have a waiting room or anything for visitors, just the workspace. People from the street often peek in to see what we are doing. It’s just a regular local mill doing its thing every day.
