About Jagat Janani Rice Mill – Food & Beverages in Ganjam
Our mill is right on the main road in Badakobamba. If you pass the post office, you can't miss us. We’ve been running the machinery here in Ganjam for a long time. It’s noisy inside when the husking starts, so we usually talk a bit louder to hear each other. The building is older, but it does the job. Most days, local farmers bring their paddy in on tractor trolleys. We spend a lot of time just drying things out in the yard when the sun is out. It’s a family thing, really. My uncle used to run it, and now we all pitch in. We have a few machines that need constant greasing and fixing, so there’s always someone with oil on their hands. It’s not a clean office job. We deal with dust and chaff all day long. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait, which is just how it goes around here. We don't do much fancy advertising, just the word of mouth from people who’ve been coming to us for years. The main road gets busy with trucks, so unloading can take a bit of time if we're backed up. We just try to get the rice processed and back to the owners as fast as the machines allow. It’s steady work and keeps us busy from dawn. We close when the last bag is finished for the day. That is about it.
