The Gujarat Rural Industries Marketing Corporation Ltd. is based out of Udhyog Bhavan in Sector-11. It’s a government-type building, so it has that specific feel to it—lots of long hallways and heavy doors. We are here to help out with the marketing of goods made in the rural areas. It’s a lot of coordination. Our desks are usually piled high with folders and reports from different districts. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, just some calendars and maybe a map of the state. It’s a busy office, but not in a frantic way. People come in to discuss logistics or to show us samples of what the village artisans are making. We spend a lot of time on the phone or typing out letters. Sector-11 is a quiet area compared to the main markets, which is nice because it lets us focus on the tasks at hand. We don't use a lot of big words or try to act like we are some high-level executives. We are just staff members trying to make sure the products get seen by the right people. Some of the equipment is a bit dated, and the tea man comes around twice a day, which is the highlight for many of us. We’ve been in Udhyog Bhavan for quite a long time now. It’s just a steady, regular job where we try to be useful to the rural industries.
