Gajjar Handicrafts

Down on Narol Road, right across from where the old Kashiram Mills stands, you’ll find our spot at number 1 in the Ghan Shyam Estate. Being in an industrial estate like this means there’s always a lot of trucks moving around and noise from the neighbors. Gajjar Handicrafts has been operating out of this unit for some time. It’s a practical space, mostly concrete and high ceilings, which is good for storage. We’ve got piles of materials in the corners and the smell of wood and finish is usually pretty strong in the air. We don’t have a showroom with bright lights. Most people who come here are looking for the workshop itself. The floor is often covered in shavings or bits of thread, no matter how much we try to keep it clean during the day. We’ve got a small kettle in the corner for when we take breaks. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but the regulars know the way. We keep the doors open when the weather allows to let a bit of a breeze through the estate. It’s not a fancy setup, but it’s where we do the work. The shelves are mostly full of half-finished projects and tools that have been used so much the handles are smooth.
