Living in Palwal means you get used to the steady pace of this town. Our confectionary shop is just a simple place where we keep all sorts of snacks and glass jars. I spend a lot of time organizing the biscuits and the little packets of chips on the shelves. The jars are full of those colorful candies that the school kids like to buy after their classes are over. It is not a fancy place, just some wooden shelves and a glass counter. Sometimes the electricity goes out in the middle of the day and we just sit there in the heat until it comes back on. That is just life here. People come in asking for bread or maybe some cold drinks when the sun is really hitting the pavement outside. I have lived in Palwal my whole life, so I know most of the families who walk past our door. We keep the shop open until late because there is always someone who forgot to buy something for their dinner or needs a quick snack. The floor is concrete and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. I usually have the radio playing some old songs in the background to pass the time when it is quiet. It gets a bit dusty because of the road nearby, so I am always wiping things down with a rag. It is just a steady way to spend the day.
