Khurja Misthan Bhandar

You can find us over at Dabwa Colony, at number 48. Khurja Misthan Bhandar is just a small local shop. We focus on making sweets that people in the neighborhood like to eat. It’s not a big operation at all. Most of the work is done by hand. We have a couple of big burners in the back. Sometimes the heat in the kitchen is almost too much to handle, but we get through it. My brother helps me with the sales and my wife helps with the prep work in the early mornings. We don't use any fancy machines. It’s just us and the ingredients. The shop front is pretty simple. We have a sign that’s a bit old and faded now, but people know who we are. We get a lot of kids coming in after school for a little treat. It’s nice to see them grow up over the years. We’ve seen families start and kids move away and come back to visit. We don't do any advertising or anything like that. People just know where we are by word of mouth. Sometimes we have a slow day when the rain is heavy and the street floods a little, making it hard to cross. We just sit and wait for the water to clear. It’s a quiet life in Dabwa Colony. We just keep making our sweets and hope people enjoy them. That’s enough for us to be happy. We’ve been here a while.
