Khadi Crafts (Sigma Apparels)

Khadi Crafts, which some people know as Sigma Apparels, is located at what used to be 141/3 but is now New 182, K.V.B. Garden. It’s in Raja Annamali Puram. The area is quite nice, with some trees around, though the "garden" part of the address name is more about the history of the land than anything else. Inside our building, it’s all about the fabric. We have rolls of cloth stacked up in the corners and the sound of sewing machines is the background music of our day. It’s a bit cramped because we try to fit as much as we can into the space. We’ve got cutting tables that have seen better days and piles of thread in every color you can imagine. The lighting is bright so we can see the stitches clearly. It gets a bit warm in the afternoons when the sun hits the roof, so we have several wall fans going at once. We’re not a high-end boutique with soft music and fancy lighting. It’s a workshop. You might have to step over a bundle of fabric to get to the desk. We spend our time checking measurements and making sure the finishing is decent. The people working here have been with us for years, so we’re like a big, slightly disorganized family. We just focus on the clothes and getting the orders out to the shops.
