Chander Partap Singh Sehkhawat

I have been here at A 203 in the Kirti Nagar Timber Market for a good while now. It’s a busy place, always full of the smell of sawdust and the sound of trucks moving back and forth. Chander Partap Singh Sehkhawat is the name on the door, but most folks just stop by to talk about what they need for their projects. The market gets quite loud in the mornings when everyone is unloading, and sometimes it's hard to hear yourself think. My shop isn't anything fancy. It has old shelves and a desk that’s seen better days, but it works for what we do here. I usually get in early before the heat gets too bad, though in Delhi, that doesn't always help much. Customers come in with all sorts of requests, some know exactly what they want and others just have a rough sketch on a piece of scrap paper. We spend a lot of time looking at wood grains and measuring things out. It is a lot of physical work, moving planks and making sure everything is stacked right so it doesn't warp. I don't spend much on advertising or anything like that. People mostly find us because they’re already walking through the market or someone told them to check out block A. It's a simple life, really. Just keeping the shop open, dealing with the daily traffic, and making sure the orders go out when they’re supposed to.
