Babbal Sweet House

Babbal Sweet House is found at Gandhi Colony K C Road 113. It is an old-fashioned kind of place where the smell of frying oil and boiled milk is always heavy in the air. We have big iron vats in the back where we cook the sugar syrups and thicken the milk for hours. The walls have some stains from the steam, but that’s just how it is when you cook this much. We lay out the trays on the glass counters every morning. The K C Road is usually full of people walking or riding bikes, and they often slow down when they pass number 113. We have a few workers who handle the heavy trays and wrap up the boxes with thin string. It is a lot of repetitive work, like cutting the squares exactly the same size. Sometimes the fans don't work as well as they should and it gets very stuffy inside. We see the same faces every week, mostly neighbors from Gandhi Colony who need something for a guest or a small celebration. We don't use any fancy packaging, just the standard cardboard boxes. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of footsteps over the years. We stay open until the last tray is mostly empty. It’s a noisy, busy, and warm place to work every day. We just focus on getting the recipes right and making sure the boxes are filled properly for the customers.
