Down in Palwal at the New Colony, things are a little bit different than the big city. I set up here because it felt like a good spot to be. It’s a mix of houses and shops, so you see the same faces every day. My place is pretty simple. I don’t have any big signs or bright lights. I just open up the door in the morning and see who comes by. Some days it’s really quiet and I just sit there reading or tidying up the shelves. Other days, three people show up at once and I’m rushing to help everyone. I like being in the New Colony because it feels like a real neighborhood. We talk about the weather or the local news while we work. I’ve lived around here for a while, so I know which roads are blocked or where to get the best supplies. The shop isn't very large. I have a small back room where I keep the extra stock and a stove for making tea. It’s a basic setup, but it works for me. I don't feel the need to make it look like a corporate office. It’s just Amit’s place, and people seem okay with that. I try to be fair and just get the job finished. Sometimes the roof leaks a little when it rains hard, so I have to move some stuff around. It’s a humble place, but it serves its purpose for the folks living around here.
