Maurya Brick Field

Maurya Brick Field is situated in the Faizabad Tehsil area, quite close to Mehbubgan. If you are driving around that part of the country, you will probably see our piles of bricks and the open fields where we work. It is a very rural setting, which is good because we need a lot of space for the kilns and the drying rows. We start our work very early in the morning before the sun gets too high because the physical labor is much easier when it is cool. The soil in this part of Faizabad is good for making sturdy bricks, and we try to make the most of what the land provides. We don't have a corporate office or anything like that; our office is basically wherever we happen to be standing at the moment. Most of the people who work here live in the nearby villages and walk to the field every day. We talk about the weather a lot because a big rainstorm can ruin a whole week of work if we aren't careful. It is a constant cycle of digging, molding, drying, and firing. When the bricks are finally ready, the local builders bring their trolleys and trucks to pick them up. We keep a simple log of what goes out and what stays in the yard. It is a quiet, steady life near Mehbubgan where we just focus on the task at hand and hope for clear skies.
