Laxmi Brick Field

Our brick field is located in Village Salhipur, right near Chaure Bazar in the Bikapur area. It’s a wide-open space where we have the kilns set up. Working with the earth like this is tough, but we’ve been at it for years. The seasons really dictate how we work. When the monsoon hits, we have to cover everything up and wait it out. But when the sun is out, the whole place is buzzing with activity. We have families who have worked with us for a long time. It’s a simple life out here in Salhipur. We aren't trying to be the biggest, just trying to keep the quality steady so the bricks don't crumble. People from the nearby villages usually come to us because they know we are right here. We spend our days checking the fires and making sure the stacks are stable. It's a lot of physical work, lifting and moving heavy loads all day long. Sometimes we have a cup of tea near the entrance while we wait for the next delivery truck to arrive. There isn't much to see besides the clay and the finished bricks, but it's what we do. We like being close to the bazar because we can grab what we need easily. It’s just a regular brick field doing regular work every day. We don't have much to say about ourselves, but the bricks are usually stacked high and ready for any local building.
