Down in Vazhappilly, you’ll find our place at 388, Mc Road. The smell of spices is the first thing you notice when you walk into Velkut Spices & Extracts. It’s a strong, earthy scent that follows you home at the end of the day. We’ve been working with local growers for a long time, getting the best extracts and whole spices we can find. The building is an old one, and we’ve had to patch the roof a few times, but it serves us well. Most of our work involves sorting, drying, and packing things up for transport. It’s a lot of manual labor, and we have a group of local women who are experts at grading the quality of the spices by hand. We don't use big machines for everything because sometimes you just need a human eye to see if something is right. My grandfather started with a small stall, and we’ve slowly grown into this private limited company, though it still feels like a family business. We talk to the farmers regularly and know whose crop is doing well this season. We don’t have a big marketing budget or a sales team. The quality of what we send out usually speaks for itself. It’s a quiet life here on MC Road, and we’re happy to keep it that way, just focusing on our spices. We're just glad to be part of this community's history.
