Kochi Mahila Spices

Kochi Mahila Spices is a small operation we started right here on the Main Road in One Town. We have a little space at 3B where we do all our work, mostly grinding and packing various spices for the kitchens around here. It gets pretty loud and dusty when we have the machines running, but the smell of the chilies and turmeric is always in the air. A few of us from the neighborhood work together to get everything done on time. It isn’t some big factory with a lot of workers; it’s more like a workshop where we handle everything by hand most of the time. We buy the raw ingredients from the markets nearby and then spend the whole day sorting through them. Sometimes the quality of the seeds isn't what we want, so we have to be really careful about what we choose to pack. It’s been a few years since we first opened the doors. We just wanted a way to work for ourselves and provide something useful for the families living in this part of town. Most people know us by the scent of the roasting spices before they even see our sign. It’s a lot of manual labor, cleaning the peppers and making sure the powders are fine enough. We don't have a marketing team or a fancy office. It’s just us working every day to keep the jars full and the customers happy.
