Kerala Spices

Kerala Spices is located at 147, Munnar Road in Perumbavoor. If you drive past us, you will probably smell the spices before you even see the sign above the entrance. We handle a lot of different things like pepper, cardamom, and dried ginger. The air inside the building is always thick with those scents. It makes you sneeze sometimes when we are moving the big sacks around on a windy day. Being on the Munnar Road means we see a lot of tourists heading up to the tea estates, but mostly we deal with the local trade and farmers. The trucks come in from the hills and we unload them right there at the front. It’s heavy work and it gets very dusty. We don’t have any fancy equipment to sort everything we receive. We do a lot of it by hand, looking at the quality and making sure it’s okay for the bags. The floor is often covered in bits of dried leaves and husks. We sweep it out every evening after the sun goes down, but by the next morning, it’s back to how it was. The weather in Perumbavoor is usually warm, so we drink a lot of water and try to stay in the shade of the warehouse walls. We don't have a website or a marketing person. People just know we are here at number 147 and they come to us when they need to buy or sell.
