You can find us over by the Parade Ground in Fort Kochi. It’s a beautiful area, though it can get very humid being so close to the water. Our shop is where we keep all sorts of household things, from ceiling fans to small kitchen gadgets. The salt air from the coast isn't great for the metal parts, so we have to stay on top of keeping everything clean and boxed up. We spend a lot of our time fixing things that have stopped working. It’s a common sight to see a row of old irons or blenders waiting for a part to arrive. The tourists walk by the Parade Ground all day, but our real customers are the local families who have lived in Fort Kochi for generations. The shop isn't very large, so we have to stack the boxes pretty high towards the ceiling. Sometimes it’s a bit of a puzzle just to find a specific model of toaster. We usually have a radio playing in the background to keep us company while we work. The pace here is a bit slower than the big cities, which suits us just fine. People drop in not just to buy things, but sometimes just to chat about the weather or the local news. We don't have any fancy marketing; we just rely on the fact that people know we are here by the ground when their fridge starts making a weird noise.
