Diya Spices. We are over at No-369 in Palliparambil, Munambam. If you know the area, it’s not hard to find us. The air around here always smells like black pepper or whatever we are sorting that day. It is a small operation. Most of the work happens on the floor with large mats and bags. We spend a lot of time just looking at the quality of the dried goods. My hands usually smell like ginger or turmeric by the time I go home for dinner. The building is an old one, and the walls have a few cracks, but it keeps the rain out. Munambam is a busy place with the fishing boats nearby, so there is always noise from the harbor. We just keep to our own space. My cousin helps out with the ledger when the orders get too many. We don't really have a big sign out front. Most people just know where we are by the smell of the spices drying in the sun. Sometimes the humidity makes things move a bit slower. We have a few old fans that creak a lot. It is just a simple way to make a living. We don't use fancy computers for everything. Most of it is just hard work and being careful with the stock. The neighbors are nice and we share coffee in the afternoons. It’s just how we do things here.
