We spend most of our mornings over at 9-108 in Vadisaleru Rajanagaram, just keeping the machines running at Sri Lakshmi Srinivasa Modern Rice Mill. It gets pretty loud once everything starts up, but you get used to it after a while. Most days are just about watching the paddy come in and making sure the processing goes okay without any jams. There’s usually dust everywhere by noon, even if we try to sweep up. It’s a plain building, nothing fancy to look at from the outside, but it gets the job done for the people around Kakinada who need their grain sorted. We don’t really have a big office or anything, just a small desk where we keep the logs and talk to the farmers. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. It’s quiet out there in Vadisaleru when the mills aren't humming. We’ve been at this for some time now, and the routine doesn’t change much from season to season. The trucks pull in, we unload, and the cycle starts again. It’s hard work, especially when the humidity picks up, but it’s what we know how to do. If you walk past the mill, you’ll probably see a few of us leaning against the wall taking a quick break. We don't worry about being fancy, just keeping the rice moving through the hullers properly as the day goes by.
