Paramjyoti Public School

Our school is right by the Red Bridge in Amalapuram. You can see it clearly as you walk over from the main part of town. We’ve been here quite a while now. The building is painted a simple color and it has two floors where most of the classes happen. Every morning the kids start showing up around eight. Some come by cycle and others walk from the nearby houses. It gets a bit noisy when everyone is arriving, but that’s just how it goes in a place like this. Inside, the hallways are fairly narrow and we have posters on the walls that the students made a few years back. The windows stay open most of the day to let the air move through since it gets pretty humid here. You can hear the traffic from the bridge if you sit still in the back classrooms. Our staff usually brings lunch from home and we eat together in the small room near the office. It’s not a fancy place but it does the job. We have a playground out back that gets quite dusty in the summer months. There’s a big tree in the corner where the older boys like to sit during their breaks. Most of the families around here know us by name. It’s a busy spot, especially in the afternoons when everyone is leaving at once and the rickshaws are waiting outside the gate.
