Shanker General Store

Shanker General Store is a small, local shop located in the Khicripur area of New Delhi. I have been running this place for a long time now, and it is pretty much exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood store. We try to keep a bit of everything on the wooden shelves—things like soap, biscuits, basic cooking ingredients, and whatever else the neighbors might need when they are in a rush. The store is not very big and it often feels a bit cluttered with all the boxes and new stock, but I usually know where everything is kept. People from the nearby houses come in throughout the day, mostly for small items they forgot to pick up at the bigger markets. I spend a lot of my time standing behind the counter and chatting with people while they look for what they need. I do not have one of those fancy electronic checkout systems; it is just me and an old register. Khicripur is a very tight-knit community, so I know almost everyone who walks through the front door. Some days the business is slow and I just sit by the entrance watching the street, while other days it feels like everyone in the neighborhood comes in at once. It is not a supermarket, just a local spot where you can get the basics. I just try to keep the supplies stocked and the milk fresh for the morning.
