Prince Genral Store

Our little shop is over in Shakarpur, specifically at S 234. It’s a small space, but we try to keep it packed with the things people in the neighborhood need every day. I usually open up early in the morning before most folks are even awake. It’s quiet then. By mid-morning, it starts getting a bit frantic. You’ve got people coming in for milk or bread, and kids stopping by on their way to school. It’s a lot of lifting boxes and putting things on shelves. My hands are always a bit dirty from handling the packaging. The shelves are a bit cramped, so you have to move carefully so you don't knock anything over. We’ve got a fan that makes a clicking noise, but it helps when the weather gets hot. I know most of the people who walk through the door by their first name. We talk about the weather or the news while I bag their items. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us busy. Sometimes the supply truck can't find the right turn, so I have to go out and wave them down. The shop has been here for a while. It’s just a basic general store. Nothing more, nothing less. We just keep the doors open and try to be helpful when someone can’t find the salt or a specific brand of soap. I keep a spare stool in the corner if anyone needs to sit for a minute while they wait.
