Fine Cast Eng Works

Our workshop is down in the basement of Shop No. 2 at U 60 Updayaya Block. It’s right in Shakarpur, and if you know the area, you know how close it is to the Laxmi Nagar Metro Station. You can actually hear the trains sometimes if things get quiet enough, which isn’t often. Fine Cast Eng Works is where we spend most of our waking hours. Being in a basement means it stays a bit cooler than the street, but it can get dusty with all the engineering work going on. We have machines that have been running for years and they have their own peculiar sounds. The space is filled with metal bits, tools, and the smell of grease. It’s not the kind of place where you’d wear a nice suit. We usually have grease on our hands by ten in the morning. People find us because they need something specific fixed or made, and we just get to it. The Updayaya Block is a maze, but once you find the stairs down to our shop, you’re in our world. We don’t really do much in terms of decorating the place; the focus is always on the benches and the lathes. It’s hard work, and the days feel long when we have a big pile of casting to get through. But we like the routine of it all.
