About Hari Om Engineering Works – Engineering in East Delhi
The workshop at 16/2 A in Shahdara gets pretty loud once we start the machines in the morning. We have been here in Nirman Vihar Gali Lahorion Wali for a long time now. Most people around know us because of the rhythmic metal clanking that echoes through the lane. My father started this place years ago with just a couple of basic tools and a very old lathe machine. It is not a fancy office or anything like that. The floors are usually covered in metal shavings and oil spots that never really go away no matter how much we sweep. We spend most of the day bent over workbenches or welding pieces together while drinking tea from the stall at the corner. The summer heat in the shed can be quite a lot, but we just keep the big fans running and get on with the job. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside on plastic stools and wait for it to come back. It is just honest work, fixing things and making parts that people need for their own machines. We do not have a front desk or a receptionist. If someone needs us, they just walk right into the shop and yell over the noise of the grinders. It is a bit messy, and our clothes usually have grease stains by noon, but that is just how engineering work goes. We take things as they come and try to get the orders ready before the sun goes down.
