Beshwal Engineering

Our workshop at 29-30 Azad Nagar is a place where we get our hands dirty every single day. Beshwal Engineering has been part of Puri Street for a long time. It’s a bit of a maze to get here if you don’t know the area well. Most of the time, the air is thick with the sound of welding and metal being cut. We started with just one small lathe machine and now we have a few more squeezed into the space. The floor is concrete and always has some grey dust on it, no matter how much we sweep. It’s just the nature of engineering work, I suppose. My brother and I run the place mostly. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning; we just have a small corner with a table where we write down the jobs for the week. People from the neighborhood bring us all sorts of things to fix or make. Sometimes it’s a small bracket for a gate and other times it’s something much more complicated for a factory. We just take it as it comes. Usually, we are here until late in the evening making sure the work gets done. There isn’t a lot of talking when the machines are running because you can’t hear anything anyway. We like being in Azad Nagar because everyone knows everyone else. It feels like a real community where people just do their jobs and don't make a big fuss.
