Runeja Marble Pvt. Ltd. operates out of Plot No. B 1 in Phase 1 of the MIDC area in Dombivali East. Being in an industrial zone like this means there is always something going on nearby. We are situated near the Vikas Bus Stop, which is a good landmark for anyone trying to find the yard. The place is mostly outdoors because marble slabs take up a huge amount of room. We have big pieces of stone leaning against each other all over the plot. It can be a bit muddy when it rains, and the sun really beats down on the stone during the summer months. We use cranes and pulleys to move the heavier pieces around, which can be pretty loud. The office on the site is just a small room where we keep the records and talk to people who come in. We aren't dressed in fancy clothes here; usually, it’s just work boots and clothes that we don't mind getting a bit of stone spray on. People come from all over Dombivali to look at the patterns in the marble. Every slab is a bit different, and we spend a lot of time walking people through the rows so they can find what they like. It’s a lot of physical labor, but it keeps us busy. The noise from the MIDC is constant, with other factories and workshops doing their own thing right next door. It’s just a regular industrial setup.
