Sri Ramakrishna And Company is sitting right on Chettiar Street in Ayyampalayam. It is an old street, and we’ve been at 9-8-21 for quite some time. The building has been in the family for a while. We sell a bit of everything that the local folks might need for their houses. We have some hardware, some kitchen supplies, and sometimes things for the farmers. It’s the kind of place where people stop to chat for ten minutes before they even ask for what they came to buy. I usually sit at the wooden desk near the front. The ceiling fan hums all day, but it doesn't do much against the heat in May. We keep our stock on high shelves that you need a ladder to reach. Most of the labels are a bit faded from the sun. We don't have a website or anything like that. If someone needs something, they just walk over or send a kid with a note. My nephew helps me with the heavy lifting when we get a shipment of metal goods or tools. We know almost everyone who walks through the door by their first name. It’s a quiet life here in Ayyampalayam, and we like it that way. We just keep the doors open and wait for the neighbors to come by. There’s no rush to anything we do, and we like to make sure people get what they actually need for their daily chores.
