Up here in Kodaikanal, things move a bit slower than down in the cities. Hotel Strawbery Park is a private limited company, but at the end of the day, it’s run by the family. We are associated with S O K B K Balasubramanian and we have been in Tamil Nadu for a long time. The air is cooler here and we spend a lot of our time dealing with the mist and the gardens. We aren't trying to be some massive international chain. We just like having a place where people can stay when they visit the hills. The 624 101 zip code is our home. We don’t have a big team of writers to make us sound fancy. We just write down what needs to be done on a notepad and get to it. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult or the roads are winding and slow, but that is just life in the mountains. We focus on the basics like having enough blankets and making sure the tea is ready. It is a quiet existence for the most part. Balasubramanian and the rest of us just keep things ticking over. We don’t need a mission statement to know that we should be polite to people. We just do our best and hope the weather stays clear for the guests.
