New Pithampur Public Senior Secondary School is out in Nalchha, in the Dhar district. Being in this area means we are a bit away from the main city buzz, which is actually quite nice for the students. The address is simple, and so is the way we run things. We have kids coming in from the local villages and the surrounding parts of Pithampur. The mornings usually start with a bit of a rush as the transport arrives. Our building is sturdy and does the job, even if it’s not the most stylish thing to look at. We focus a lot on the senior secondary levels, so there’s always a lot of pressure around exam time. You’ll see students huddled together in the corridors or under the shade of the trees trying to finish their science projects or memorize history dates. The teachers here don't have much time for fluff; they are busy grading papers and making sure everyone is keeping up with the lessons. It gets quite dusty out here, especially when the wind picks up, so there is a constant battle to keep the library and the classrooms clean. We have a small staff room where we drink tea and talk about how the kids are doing. It’s a basic, honest school where the main goal is just to help these young people get their certificates so they can move on to college or jobs. That is the reality of our daily life in Nalchha.
