Out in Chirkunda, in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, we have our setup in the New Staff Colony. M/S. Maithan Ispat Limted has this office right where the workers live, which makes sense for what we do. It’s a bit out of the way if you’re coming from the main city, but it’s quiet enough to actually get things done. The building is simple, just like the rest of the colony. We spend our days tracking shipments and managing the local staff records. There is always dust in the air because of the local industry, but that’s just life in Dhanbad. Inside, the desks are covered in folders and old coffee mugs. We don’t have any fancy mission statements on the walls, just a calendar and some site maps. The people working here are mostly locals who have been with the company for a long time. We know each other’s families and talk about the local news during lunch. It isn't a high-pressure corporate environment. It’s more about being steady and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. Sometimes the power cuts out and we just wait it out or use the backup. It’s a very practical way to live and work. We don't worry about looking professional for visitors because we don't get many; we just focus on the task at hand. It keeps things honest.
