Baliapur Krishi Uthan Mahila Producer Company Limited is based out of the village of Palani. We use Jaleshwar Mahato’s place for our meetings and all our paperwork. This is in the Baliapur area. Most of us are women from the local villages who work in the fields every single day. We decided to join up to see if we could make things a little easier for our families and our neighbors. It isn't a big office with desks and computers. It's more of a place where we gather after our daily chores are done. We talk about the crops and what the market is doing lately. Sometimes we have to walk a long way just to get here. The village is quiet and everyone knows what we are trying to do together. Jaleshwar helps us out by letting us use the space. We are trying to learn how to handle the business side of farming, which is very new to many of us. We grew up doing this work, but now we are doing it as a company. It's hard to find time between cooking and taking care of the kids, but we make it work somehow. We don't have any fancy brochures or advertisements. If you need us, you just come to Palani and ask where the women's group is. We're usually around the village or out in the dirt working. It's a simple life but we are proud of our group.
