Out here on Mahavir Road in Varanasi, things stay moving pretty quickly most days. Our spot is at Plot No-186 in the Vindhyavasani Colony area. If you know where Ordali Bazar is, we are not too far from that landmark. It is a local operation through and through, nothing too corporate or shiny about it. We have tiles stacked up high in the back, and the floor is usually covered in a bit of grit from the heavy stone. It is just the way it has to be when you are working with these kinds of building supplies. Some days it stays quiet, just us checking the logs and the stock, and other days it feels like everyone in the city needs a new floor at once. The sun hits the front of our building pretty hard in the summer months, so we keep the shutters halfway down to stay cool inside. We have been at this address for a long while and the neighbors all know who we are. We do not spend much time on fancy talk or making things look better than they really are. We just show people what we have in the warehouse and tell them when it can be moved out. Loading the trucks takes up a lot of our physical energy. We have to be really careful not to chip the edges of the ceramic. It is hard work but it is what we do.
