New Bombay Srinagar Transport Company

Our shop is number 248 in Janta Market, over in the Paharganj area. It’s a real maze around here, but once you find us, you’ll see we’re always busy. We call ourselves the New Bombay Srinagar Transport Company because those are the main routes we’ve always handled. It’s a long way from Bombay up to Srinagar, and we’ve seen just about every inch of that road. The office in Paharganj is small and usually has someone sleeping on a bench after a long shift. We aren't fancy people. We wear dusty clothes and talk loudly because the market is always noisy. Managing trucks going across the country is a lot of stress, especially with the mountain passes and the paperwork at the borders. We just take it one day at a time. We’ve got a group of regular drivers who are more like brothers to us now. They tell us about the landslides or the heat waves, and we just try to keep things moving. Janta Market is a good place to be based because everything you need is right there. We don't spend money on advertising; we just rely on the fact that we’ve been here long enough that people trust us to get their goods through. It’s a hard way to live, but we wouldn’t know what else to do with ourselves. It’s better than sitting behind a computer in some quiet office all day.
