We’ve been here at 640, Hamilton Road for quite a while now. Kashmere Gate is always crowded, as anyone who comes by knows. It’s mostly just us handling lighting stuff every day. People come in looking for specific bulbs or parts they can't find elsewhere. We spend a lot of time sorting through stock and making sure things work before they leave the shop. It isn't a fancy place with bright carpets or anything. Just a lot of shelves and boxes. My cousin helps out when it gets busy in the afternoons. Sometimes the traffic outside makes it hard for deliveries to reach us on time, but we manage. We’ve seen the neighborhood change over the years, but the way we do things stays mostly the same. If someone needs a particular light fix, they usually find their way to our door. It’s loud out there on the street, but inside we just focus on the orders. We don't do much fancy advertising. Most people know us because they’ve been coming here for years or their mechanic told them to stop by. We keep the kettle going for tea during the slow hours in the morning. It’s a simple living. Hamilton Road has its own rhythm and we’re just a part of that. We try to keep what people need in stock so they don't have to wander around other shops too long. It’s just how we run things here in this part of town.
