Citizen Transport Pvt Ltd is based at Kirti Nagar 83. If you know the area, you know it’s famous for all the furniture shops and timber yards. Our place is right in the thick of it. The air is often heavy with the smell of cut wood and sawdust. Our office is a simple brick building that’s been painted a few different colors over the years. Inside, it’s mostly just metal cupboards and a big wooden desk that looks like it could survive a small earthquake. We spend the morning sorting through the previous night's logs and seeing which drivers are back on the road. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it has to be done carefully. There’s no air conditioning, just a big window that lets in the breeze and the noise of the traffic. We have a small corner where we keep the tiffin boxes for lunch. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back on. We don’t use any high-tech systems, mostly just pens and the big ledgers we’ve used for years. It’s a reliable way of working. People stop by to ask for rates or just to say hello while they’re passing through the market. We don't put on any acts. We’re just a bunch of people trying to keep the trucks loaded and the business moving along one day at a time.
